Basketball Season Preview Series Hits Manhattan On Wednesday

Red Storm basketball fans can catch up with Norm Roberts and Kim Barnes Arico on Wednesday evening in Manhattan at the New York Athletic Club, as the two coaches appear at the third preseason reception of the fall, held by the St. John???s Red White Club. Roberts and Barnes Arico will be on hand to chat with fans, take questions and discuss the upcoming St. John???s hoops seasons at events in your area throughout the months of September and October.
At receptions in Woodbury, N.Y., and Matawan, N.J., during the last two weeks, St. John???s fans were able to interact with the coaches and ask questions about the upcoming seasons on the hardwood. Fans were also able to get the ???inside scoop??? on upcoming Red Storm Athletics events, such as STORM FEST ???06 scheduled for this Thursday, Oct. 5, and the Lapchick Symposium, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 11.
All St. John???s fans, alumni and friends are invited to the season preview receptions, which will be held on the following dates:

Roberts and the men???s basketball team return five starters, 11 letterwinners and 92.3 percent of their scoring from a season ago. The squad adds four talented newcomers ??? a class that has received a Top 5 rating from recruiting publications ??? to a cast of seasoned veterans that includes preseason honors candidates Lamont Hamilton (12.6 points per game, 7.6 rebounds per game), Daryll Hill (12.3 ppg), Eugene Lawrence (9.3 ppg, 4.9 assists per game) and Anthony Mason Jr. (8.4 ppg).
Fresh off its second round NCAA Tournament appearance and 22-8 overall record in 2005-06, Barnes Arico and the women???s team return their leading scorers in first team All-BIG EAST selections and All-America candidates Angela Clark (13.8 ppg, 8.4 rpg) and Kia Wright (14.8 ppg, 4.5 apg). Also returning is Red Storm junior Tiina Sten (4.1 ppg) and sophomores Monique McLean (7.0 ppg), Lisa Claxton (2.5 apg) and Angel Tate (.474 FG pct.). Six newcomers complete the 2006-07 Red Storm squad.
