Women's Tennis Serves Up A Win Over Army

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis team swept Army, 7-0 Sunday afternoon in West Point, N.Y. The Red Storm begins the non-conference spring season 2-0. Nataly Tumsevica (Riga, Latvia) and Alison Adamski (Jamaica Estates, N.Y.) lead the Red Storm to victory at the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles positions.
In doubles play, Tumsevica and Adamski topped Megan Noble and Sarah Giles-Madden (8-3) at the No. 1 spot while Barbora Blahutiakova (Bratislova, Slovakia) and Mariana Chachua (Tbilisi, Georgia) defeated Amanda Paluch and Kristin Flach (8-1). At the No. 3 position, Lauren Lorenzetti (Northfield, N.J.) and Ashley Harper (Mullica Hill, N.J.) picked up the win in a deciding set over Jessica Schurtz and Christine Limsiaco (9-8 (7-1)).
In singles action, Tumsevica defeated Noble (7-5, 6-2) at the No. 1 position while Blahutiakova grabbed the win against Flach (6-1, 6-2). At the No. 3 spot, Chachua topped Giles-Madden (6-1, 6-3) and Lorenzetti won a hard fought match against a Schurtz (6-4, 6-7 (7-2), 6-2). Adamski defeated Paluch (6-2, 1-6, 6-2) at the No. 5 position while at the No. 6 spot, Gabija Gasiunaite (Kaunas, Lithuania) topped Kate Houghton (7-5, 6-4).
The Red Storm returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 11 against Princeton at 11 a.m.
