Women's Tennis Hosts Seton Hall Friday Afternoon

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis team will host BIG EAST foe Seton Hall Friday afternoon on the Courts at St. John's in Queens, N.Y. First serve between the Red Storm and Pirates is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday's match marks the 10th meeting of the two teams, where Seton Hall leads the series 6-3.
The Pirates and Red Storm last met on March 18, 2005, when St. John's edged Seton Hall, 4-3, at Columbia University. The Pirates earned the first point of the match, with two doubles wins but the Red Storm rallied back and took points at the No. 2, 3, 4 and 6 singles spots for the come-from-behind victory. Current head coach Alison Davidson came back after dropping the first set, 3-6, of her No. 4 singles match and won the second two, 6-3 and 6-4, to clinch the win for St. John's.
- NOTING THE RED STORM
St. John's is currently 3-6 overall and is 1-2 BIG EAST action. Junior captain Alison Adamski (Jamaica Estates, N.Y.) leads the Red Storm with a 6-3 overall singles mark playing at the No. 5 spot, while senior Lauren Lorenzetti (Northfield, N.J.) is second on the team with a 4-4 overall record at the No. 4 position. In doubles action, Lorenzetti and freshman Gabija Gasiunaite (Kaunas, Lithuania) teamed up for the first time against DePaul (Mar. 11) and currently lead the team with a 2-0 mark at the No. 3 position.
- LAST TIME OUT
In its last contest, the Red Storm snapped its six game losing streak when it edged the Mountaineers of West Virginia, 4-3, Sunday, March 12 in Morgantown, W.Va. The Red Storm (3-6, 1-2 BIG EAST) earned the doubles point early in the victory over the Mountaineers. Barbora Blahutiakova (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Mariana Chachua (Tblisi, Georgia) grabbed an 8-6 victory at the No. 2 position, while Lorenzetti and Gasiunaite earned a hard fought, 9-7, win at the No. 3 spot. In singles action, St. John's picked up wins at the No. 2 and No. 4 positions, while Adamski secured the team's victory in straight sets at the No. 5 spot.
- SCOUTING THE PIRATES
Seton Hall (6-3, BIG EAST 1-0) enters Friday's match off of a 5-2 win over Broward County Community College on March 11. The Pirates cruised through singles play, dropping only one match at the No. 6 position. In doubles play, Broward County pulled away with the point but No. 1 doubles pair, Viviana Figueroa and Nadja Sein came away with an 8-2 victory.
Freshman Danielle Viola currently leads Seton Hall with an 8-1 overall record playing mostly at the No. 5 position, while sophomore Sein and junior Sylvia Jaros are tied for second with a 6-3 overall mark at the No. 3 and No. 2 spots, respectively. In doubles action, Figueroa and Sein lead the Pirates with a 7-2 record at the No. 1 position.

The Red Storm returns to action on Sunday, March 26 with a BIG EAST road trip to collide with the Hoyas of Georgetown. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
