RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The St. John's track and field team captured the Metropolitan Championship crown on Monday night in Draddy Gym on the Manhattan College campus. The jump portion of the competition was postponed until Monday and the venue was changed due to heavy rain on Saturday on the St. John's Queens campus.
"After finishing fourth at the ECAC Indoor Championships and now winning the Metropolitan Championships, this group has proved to be one of the best track and field teams St. John's has ever had," said head coach Jim Hurt. "There are quality athletes across the board in all event spectrums. They are a very competitive team and I'm proud of them."
The Red Storm tallied 178 points for the top spot while BIG EAST competitor Rutgers finished in second with 119 points. Fordham rounded out the top three, recording 96 points.
