Men's Golf Finishes Seventh At BIG EAST Championships

The St. John's men's golf team took seventh place at the 2006 BIG EAST Golf Championships. The Red Storm posted a three-round score of 880, coming in one stroke behind Cincinnati and Villanova, who tied for fifth place.
Sophomore Keegan Bradley (Jackson Hole, Wyo.) finished tied for third place with Cincinnati's Geoff Newman. Bradley earned his first All-BIG EAST team honors after posting a four-under par 211 (71-69-71).
Classmate George Zolotas (Peabody, Mass.) recorded a three-under par 69 in the final round of the tournament and posted a 226 (82-75-69) overall. Senior Brain McArdle (Huntington, N.Y.) was the second lowest scorer for St. John's with a 224 (74-71-79).
Rookies Kevin Velardo (Wilmington, Mass) and Casey Calmi (Douglaston Manor, N.Y.) improved throughout the two-day event which was held on Lake Jovita golf course. Velardo finished with a 225 (75-74-76) while Calmi recorded a 230 (81-74-75).
Notre Dame was awarded its third consecutive Championship title after defeating Louisville in a sudden-death playoff hole. The two teams finished the event tied with a 842. Louisville's Derek Fathauer earned the Individual Championship title with a 14-under par 202.
