Track And Field Heads To NCAA Regional Championships

Six Red Storm track and field athletes will compete in five different events at the NCAA Regionals on Friday and Saturday at North Carolina A&T State University.
Kaydian Reid (Windsor, Conn.) qualified to participate in three events, the 200 and 400 meter dashes and is a member of the 4x400 meter relay team. Reid has the 16th best time in the east in the 200 meter dash, clocking in at 23.74 at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in the beginning of May. She has the fourth fastest time in the 400 meter dash, cruising to a time of 52.68 seconds, which she also recorded at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. The mark also broke the St. John???s school record.
Reid joins Tarashon Broomes (Fair Lawn, N.J.), Thalene King (Manchestar, Jamaica) and Nerissa Pelle (St. John???s, Antigua) on the 4x400 meter relay team. The squad posted a time of 3:40.51 at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships.
In the throwing events, Blessing Egwu (Queens, N.Y.) will compete in the hammer throw. She registered a mark of 59.93 meters at the Penn Relays at the end of April for the fifth best throw in the east this season. Grace Zollman (Joseph, Ore.), meanwhile, will participate in the javelin throw. She launched the spear 46.16 meters for the 12th farthest throw in the east at the Sea Ray Relays in mid-April. This is the third straight year Egwu will compete at the NCAA Regionals and the second time for Zollman.
"We congratulate and are very proud of these athletes who have worked and competed hard to develop their abilities to rank among the top track and field athletes in the eastern United States," said head coach Jim Hurt. "We are looking forward to the Regional Championships this weekend and the opportunity to advance to the NCAA Championships in Sacramento."
The top five individuals and top three relay teams from the Regional Championship will automatically advance to the NCAA Finals in Sacramento, Calif., from June 7-10.
