QUEENS, N.Y. - Head Coach Kim Barnes Arico
Opening Statement:
"I thought we got off to a sensational start and then we kind of took a deep breath and relaxed a little bit. I think we need to have a killer instinct, learn to really put people away, be a better rebounding team and turn the ball over less. Those are some of the same type of things we work on all the time. I thought the people off the bench gave us some great minutes and gave us a great opportunity for us to play different lineups. Overall I'm pleased. We have a difficult weekend coming up but I'm looking forward to practicing for it tomorrow."
On bouncing back from the loss at Hartford:
"I knew we were going to be able to bounce back. I think that game actually taught us a lot of things. It was nice to have the week off to look at the tape and see the things we need to get better at and refocus. That was a tough team and to play and to play them on the road was a tough match up for us."
On the team sharing the ball :
"We always talk about making the extra pass and I think they're getting better at that. They're an unselfish group and they understand that in order for us to be successful we'll need more than one, two or three options."
Senior Guard Kia Wright
On the team relaxing during the game
"Sometimes that happens when we're expected to win. We don't come out as hard and finish as hard as we're supposed to. It is a flaw of ours that we recognize and it's something that we are working on."
Sophomore Center Recee Mitchell
On the difference of her play from last season to this season:
"The big difference between me this season from last year is that I'm in better shape running up and down the court."
Junior Guard Monique McLean
On remaining a top scorer on the team:
"Scoring a lot of points isn't what I focus on every game. I work on my overall play a lot harder than I did last year and it's allowing me to be more consistent. I focus on my rebounding more than anything else. I play a lot harder than I did last year. Last year, because of my injuries, I wasn't in that good of shape and never had a chance to get settled."
