Fencing Has Strong Showing At Junior Olympic Trials

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's men's and women's fencing teams had strong performances all around at the NAC Division I Junior Olympic Trials at the Georgia World Congress Center on Jan. 18-21. The Red Storm had four top 25 finishers in Division I and two top 20 NAC Junior finishers.
For the women's team, sophomore Tanya Novakovska finished in third place in the Division I epee, while senior Martyna Wieczorek finished 18th in the junior sabre.
On the men's side, senior captain Luther Clement finished 20th in the Division I sabre, while senior Henry Kennard finished 23rd in foil. In the Junior Division epee, freshman Brendan Meyers and junior Stan Vaksman finished 11th and 12th, respectively.
Top finishers from this weekend's meet will earn points toward qualifying for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Next up for the Red Storm will be the NYU Tournament on Jan. 25, hosted by New York University.
