St. John's Wins Match Play Vs. Rutgers

QUEENS, NY - Despite high winds, the Red Storm was able to overcome Rutgers in six match play, head-to-head contests in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Rutgers attempted a comeback on the second day of play but St. John's held its lead and took every match-up in the event.
"We are looking forward to getting into the middle of our season with some tough competition ahead," said coach Ambry Bishop. "Our team has the potential to have a strong showing the remainder of the year and we need to stay focused on our goals to achieve this success."
On day one, the team of Brittany Lambertson and Samantha Tejada won their match vs. Rutgers by six holes with five left to play. Michele Romano and Ashley Szewczuk were also victorious, winning their match four holes ahead of Rutgers with three left. In the only singles match of the day, Lois Kim brought home the win, earning the checkmark by five holes with four remaining.
Matches on day two saw some stiff competition as the team of Lambertson and Szewczuk held on for the win, finishing ahead by two holes and just one remaining. Tejada and Romano paired together and came up with the win, also ending up by two with one hole to play. Renee Cloutier competed in the lone singles match of day two and secured the win taking the last hole to finish one up over Rutgers.
The Red Storm will now travel to Beallsville, Md. to compete in the Hoya Women's Invitational on March 30-31, hosted by Georgetown. The two day event will be held at the Four Streams golf course. For the most up-to-date scores, schedules, and results, please visit www.RedStormSports.com.
