QUEENS, N.Y. - After playing the first round without warning or practice time, former St. John's golfer Andrew Svoboda got comfortable on the course and scored an even par 71 on day two. Svoboda was called upon as the first alternate at this year's US Open at Torrey Pines Golf Club in San Diego Calif.
"After getting a chance to play the course on day one, Andrew really came out swinging in the second round," said St. John's head golf coach Frank Darby. "He was at a disadvantage not being able to get his practice round in on the first day, but rebounded well on day two."
The Larchmont, N.Y. native used his 71 on day two to move up 51 spots and finish tied for 49th. Svoboda tallied five birdies to stay at six-over, 148, and make the cut for day three.
