QUEENS, N.Y. - On Tuesday, Oct. 27, the St. John's baseball team successfully completed and survived The Program's Judgment Day, a two-part leadership and team building program. Judgment Day began with a leadership presentation before two hours of physical, team building exercises.
The Program is a leadership and athletic development company for high school and collegiate student-athletes and teams. Judgment Day is The Program's personal development, leadership development and team building evolution based on the shared experiences of Eric Kapitulik, CEO and founder, and his staff members as collegiate and professional athletes and as members of elite U.S. military special operations units.
"I thought Eric did a fantastic job of bringing the team together as one unit," said head coach Ed Blankmeyer. "It was nice to see many of the guys step up and take leadership roles to accomplish the tasks at hand."
Prior to the physical portion of Judgment Day, the Red Storm and coaching staff listened to a presentation by Kapitulik. The presentation, entitled "Leadership And Dealing With Adversity," was based on one of Kapitulik's experiences in Marine Corps Special Operations. This experience helped shape both the ethos (We are good team leaders and good teammates and we prepare ourselves to fill either role) and the three core principles (We are physically and mentally tough. We don't make excuses and don't let others make excuses for us. We work hard) of The Program.
The players then headed outside for two hours of physical, team building exercises in a cold, steady rain. Each member of the squad was given the opportunity to be a team leader and a good teammate, while performing a variety of exercises.
"As a team we learned a lot about helping each other out and looking out for each other," said junior third baseman Greg Hopkins. "The exercises taught us about working together as one unit, doing the little things right and paying attention to detail."
