QUEENS, N.Y. -
- St. John's was only the second team this season to outrebound Connecticut, winning the battle of the boards, 42-37. The other team was Rutgers, which lost to the Huskies, 75-56, on Feb. 3 at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.
- The Red Storm came within seven points twice in the second half, at 11:22 when Da'Shena Stevens hit a free throw to make it 54-47 and at 10:11 when Kelly McManmon drained two freebies to make the score 56-49. That would be the closest St. John's came in the second stanza.
- With a jumper at 5:39 of the second half, Stevens set a new career high with her 21st point of the game. The freshman finished with a game-high 27 points and just missed a double-double with a team-high nine rebounds.
- Two other Red Storm players scored in double-figures: McManmon had 13 points and sophomore Sky Lindsay scored 10.
- Only two other opponents have had a narrower margin of defeat than St. John's (13 points) against UConn in 2008-09: Georgia Tech (11, 82-71, on Nov. 16) and Florida State (12, 83-71, on Dec. 21).
- This is the first time since Dec. 16, when St. John's defeated Howard at home, 66-36, that all 11 Red Storm players saw action in a game.
