FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - The St. John's men's tennis team ended its three-game losing skid by sweeping action today against Fairleigh Dickinson, 7-0, at the USTA National Tennis Center. With the win, the Red Storm improves to 4-3 on the season, while the Knights fall to 3-2.
The Red Storm mixed its pairings in doubles, as the teams of Pavel Cerny/Asaf Honig and Martin Kosut/Alex Svetlakov won their first matches of the season at the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively. St. John's took the doubles point with the victories at two of the three positions to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.
In singles, STJ completed the sweep of FDU, earning quick two-set wins at each position. Honig, Cerny, Kosut and Svetlakov each picked up their second victories of the day, while freshman Milo Hauk won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 and senior Jordan Talbot earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory to round out the Red Storm order at No. 6.
St. John's returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 28, when the squad travels to take on Princeton. Doubles Competition is set to begin at 2 p.m. at the Tigers' Jadwin Gymnasium.
