QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's track & field sophomore standout Priscilla Frederick earned her first conference honors of the season as officials at both the ECAC and BIG EAST Conferences named her Athlete of the Week on Wednesday. This is the first time a St. John's track & field athlete has won both awards in the same week.
In the inaugural season of the BIG EAST Weekly Track & Field awards, Frederick is the second St. John's student-athlete to be honored as she earns Field Athlete of the Week accolades. The sophomore from Sicklerville, N.J., is also the first Red Storm student-athlete to earn ECAC Weekly honors in at least three seasons.
At the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Championships held at the Armory on Jan. 30-31, Frederick led the Red Storm with two individual event titles. Competing in her first-ever collegiate pentathlon, she won the event with a score of 3,684 points, an ECAC qualifier and second-best in school history. In her quest for the title, Frederick hit her career-best height of 1.80 meters (5 feet, 10.75 inches), a NCAA-provisional height in the high jump, which is the sixth-best height this year among all Division I athletes and the leading mark in the BIG EAST.
Frederick also won the high jump, defending her Indoor Metropolitan Title from last year, clearing the bar at 1.78 meters (5 feet, 10 inches), also an NCAA-provisional qualifier.
Next up, the Red Storm will head back to the Armory to compete at the New Balance Invitational on Friday, Feb. 6. In a quick turnaround, St. John's will travel to Princeton, N.J., the following day to participate in the Princeton Invitational.
