UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - St. John's fencing freshman Daryl Homer earned the silver medal at the 2009 NCAA Championships on Friday after a hard-fought bout with national champion Aleksander Ochocki from host-school Penn State. Ochocki out-touched Homer, 15-14, in the gold-medal bout to claim the title.
"We are very proud of Daryl, he had an outstanding tournament," said head coach Yury Gelman. "Moving forward, our women are prepared to help move us up in the standings."
With men's competition completed after two days of action, the Red Storm has earned a total of 53 victories and sits in seventh place in the current field of 20 schools. Penn State leads the pack with 98 total victories.
