St. John's Cross Country Earns USTFCCA Academic Honors

QUEENS, N.Y. - On March 5, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the St. John's cross country team to their Division I Women's Academic All-American Team.
The squad posted a 3.54 team GPA, putting them in the top-25 percent of the 160 Division I women's cross country teams that made the list. There are 394 schools in Division I that sponsor women's cross country.
This is the third-consecutive season the Red Storm has received the honor.
The BIG EAST and Big Ten tied for the most conference members represented on the list with 11 teams each. Of the BIG EAST members, St. John's had the fifth-highest cumulative GPA, with West Virginia leading the conference with a 3.65 team GPA.
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade point average.
The Red Storm cross country team competed at the Northeast Regionals in Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale, N.Y., finishing 26th out of 34 teams with 674 points. The score was 214 points better than the previous season.
The University of Washington Huskies were named the 2008 NCAA Division I USTFCCA Women's Cross Country Scholar Team of the Year, as announced by officials on March 4. University of South Carolina had the highest overall team grade point average (3.767).
