The Red Storm head to Ashland, Neb. for the 2025 championship
QUEENS, N.Y. (Oct. 30, 2025) – The St. John's cross country team is set to toe the line at the 2025 BIG EAST Cross Country Championship presented by JEEP on Friday, Oct. 31. The women's 6k race is scheduled for 12:50 p.m. EST (11:50 a.m. CST), followed by the awards presentation. This year's championship will be hosted by Creighton University at the Olsson Cross Country Course in Ashland, Neb.
The race will stream on ESPN+ as Justin Corrigan calls the action. Tickets and parking passes to the Olsson Cross Country Course can be purchased here.
At last year's championship, the Johnnies finished 11th and Ezgi Yasar was the top finisher with a time of 23:03.03, good enough for 64th place.
The Red Storm are led by sophomore Naiara Garcia and freshman Attoya Harvey, both finishing as the top two racers for the squad all season.
Garcia has rounded into form over the last two competitions, setting personal bests in both the 5k and 6k. Most recently, the Spanish native crossed the line in 22:19.6 during the ECAC Cross Country Championship at Van Cortlandt Park's 6k trail.
Earlier in the season, Garica posted a 17:47.5 in the 5k at the Metropolitan Cross Country Championship held at Branch Brook Park in Newark, N.J. Her fifth-place finish guided St. John's to its fifth consecutive top-four finish at the championship.
Harvey has impressed in her inaugural season with the Red Storm. At the 51st Annual Paul Short Run, the Guyana native was the top finisher for the Johnnies and her 6k time of 23:32.7 was a personal best. Later in the season, she went sub-24 minutes once again at the ECAC Cross Country Championship.
Ana Dobsa has quietly pieced together a strong campaign of her own, running back-to-back seasons bests over the last two races. She enters the championship with a season's best 24:55.2 in the 6k and has a personal best of 23:04.8 at the distance.
Cristina Stanescu, Brenin Mahon and Mia Torres round out the six competitors that Head Coach Elliott Blount will send out tomorrow afternoon.
Following the BIG EAST Championship, qualifiers from St. John's will advance to the 2025 NCAA Northeast Regional Championship on Nov. 14 in Hopkinton, N.H., hosted by Boston College. The top two teams and the top four individual finishers not on qualifying teams will advance to the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championship on Nov. 22 at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Mo.
The race will stream on ESPN+ as Justin Corrigan calls the action. Tickets and parking passes to the Olsson Cross Country Course can be purchased here.
