QUEENS, N.Y. -
As the Class of 2009 enters its final week of play for St. John's, senior midfielder Malcolm Miles got together with classmate Pat McClay to answer some of McClay's questions on the season, pregame rituals and more, to help Red Storm fans get to know Miles better.
Teammates for three seasons, this year's crop of seniors are a tight knit group who don't mind sharing some mid-season thoughts with Red Storm lacrosse fans or each other.
Miles transferred to St. John's from Herkimer Community College in the fall of 2007. A native of Watertown, N.Y., Miles moved into a starting role in the last five games of 2008. Last season, he finished fourth on the team in points with 13 (10G, 3A). As a senior, Miles earned ECAC honor roll accolades for his career-best four assist performance in the historic, 10-9, victory over then-No. 5 Georgetown on Feb. 28. In the upset, the senior had three-straight assists in the first half to help St. John's overcome the Hoyas. For the season, he is tied for second in assists and is fifth on the team in scoring.
In his short career with the Red Storm, he has posted 29 points with 18 goals and 11 assists.
Pat McClay: How was your experience at Herkimer? In particular, the guys you met from Mahopac, my hometown.
Malcolm Miles: My Herkimer experience was a lot of fun; especially the great guys, like Justin Tufo, from Mahopac.
PM: Why do the guys call you `silky milky'?
MM: It was a nickname my friends gave to me in high school, and it sort of stuck with me here.
PM: What is your favorite coach Miller quote?
MM: My favorite miller quote would have to be the "hay is in the barn."
PM: Who were the most influential people in your lacrosse career?
MM: My parents.
PM: What do you plan on doing next year without lacrosse?
MM: I plan on finishing school and just keeping in shape.
PM: What's going through your head during this last week of lacrosse?
MM: It's sad that the season is just about over. My time here was kind of short, but I don't regret it at all. I had a lot of fun while I was here.
PM: Here's a theoretical non-lacrosse related question. Which is better, having one egg in a basket or two?
MM: It's always better to have two eggs in a basket; but I could settle for one.
Next up, check back on Wednesday with RedStormSports.com as McClay has his turn in the hot seat.
