QUEENS, N.Y. - After shooting an even-par 72 in the second round of the PGA Championship on Friday at Hazeltine National Golf Club (Chaska, Minn.), former Red Storm men's golfer Greg Bisconti advanced past the major tournament's first cut for the first time in his career.
Bisconti's 3-over 147 through the first 36 holes is a PGA Championship career best. At the 2007 PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club (Tulsa, Okla.), he missed the cut after shooting an 82-79--161. In 2006, Bisconti fell short after carding a 70-78--148 at Medinah Country Club (Medinah, Ill.).
The '94 alum is currently tied for 48th place -- a 47-spot leap from where he started at the beginning of the second round. He trails the current leader, Tiger Woods, by 10 strokes.
Bisconti started on the front nine and went on a three-hole hot streak midway through the second round. He birdied holes 9, 10 and 11 to reach 2-under for the round and 1-over for the tournament. Bogeys on holes 3, 12 and 15 prevented him carding an under-par round.
