QUEENS, N.Y. -- On Sunday, St. John’s men’s golfer Greg Bisconti won the Low Club Professional award at the 91st PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club (Chaska, Minn.), turning in a 75-72-78-76—301 (+13) performance in his third appearance in the PGA major tournament.
Bisconti, a PGA assistant professional at St. Andrew’s Golf Club (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.), shot a 4-over 76 in Sunday’s final round. Heading into this weekend’s play, he said that he hoped to “make the cut and make some noise.” And that’s exactly what he did.
The ’94 alum made the cut at the PGA Championship for the first time in his career after falling short in 2006 and 2007. He and Grant Sturgeon (+15) were the only two club pros who advanced past the cut.
Bisconti opened the fourth round shooting a 3-over 39 on the front nine with a birdie on the par-4, fifth hole. He finished the tournament strong, finding the cup five times for par and once for birdie (No. 14) over his final six holes.
Y.E. Yang won the PGA season’s final major tournament with a 73-70-67-70—280 (-8), besting Tiger Woods (-5) down the home stretch.
