2009 Cross Country Schedule
Queens, N.Y. - St. John's Cross Country and Track & Field head coach Jim Hurt announced the schedule for the 2009 cross country season.
The fall season includes a trip to Bethlehem, Pa. for the Paul Short Invite on the first weekend in October as well as a trip to Kenosha, Wis. for the annual BIG EAST Championships at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on October 31.
The Red Storm will continue their tradition of hosting championship events as the 2009 Metropolitan and ECAC Championships return to Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. Last season, the Red Storm posted a fourth-place finish at the Metropolitan Championships, an improvement of four slots over the previous season.
"We are excited for yet another strong lineup of meets this fall," said Hurt. "This team will boast tremendous depth this season as we look to continue our improvement as a program."
The season kicks off on the first weekend in September with the Hofstra Invitational in nearby Bethpage, N.Y. The team will compete in the Iona Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park on September 19 before traveling to the Paul Short Invite.
After hosting the Metropolitan Championships on Oct. 9, the squad will participate in the annual STJ Fall Festival taking place at Cunningham Park in Queens, N.Y. on Oct. 18. The Red Storm will close out the season by travelling to Boston, Mass. on Nov. 14 for the NCAA Northeast Regional (6K) followed by the ECAC Championships on Nov. 21.
The NCAA Championships will once again be hosted by Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 23.
St. John's returns nine letter-winners from last year's squad including seniors Sarah Fry and Pamela Petruski and will welcome three incoming freshman to the fold.
