St. John's Finishes Fourth In Primetime Armory Meet

QUEENS, N.Y. - Running in its third meet in a week and second at the Armory, the Red Storm Track & Field team took home a fourth-place finish in the NYRR College Night At The Armory on Saturday.
St. John's benefitted from strong scoring performances from the freshman class. Rikka Lovely, who has already qualified for the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships in the 60-meter dash, finished third overall in that event with a time of 7.75 seconds. She also finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.48, qualifying her for the BIG EAST in that race as well.
Fellow freshman Stephanie Barnes also scored big points for St. John's, finishing in first place overall in the triple jump and qualifying for the BIG EAST with her longest jump of the season at 11.47 meters.
Junior Kim Piard scored points with a second place finish in the 500-meter race, qualifying for both the BIG EAST and ECAC with a time of 1:14.40. Juniors Asia Davy and Vanessa Thompson also ran in the 500-meters, finishing in 11th and 15th place respectively.
Senior Asia Nettles and freshman Molly Ellis collected points in the 400-meter dash, finishing in sixth and seventh place with times of 58.38 and 58.57. Juniors Lauren Wynter and Rene Cousins finished closely behind with times of 59.19 and 59.27. Cousins and Ellis also scored points in the 200-meter dash with times of 26.06 and 26.08, coming in seventh and eighth place respectively.
Sophomore Chanel King rounded out the Red Storm scorers by finishing third in the weight throw with a distance of 16.43 meters, and sixth in the shot put, throwing 12.48 meters.
Junior Sarah Sudbury ran in the 1,000-meter race, finishing ninth with a time of 2:59.79. Senior Pamela Petruski and sophomore Nicole Cocozza competed in the 800-meter race, finishing with times of 2:19.54 and 2:29.43.
Overall, the Red Storm tallied 49 points en route to a fourth-place finish behind Connecticut, Villanova and Temple.
St. John's will return to the Armory on Jan. 22 for the Great Dane Invite.
