Koroleva, Kirpicheva Lead Storm At Temple Invitational

Philadelphia - Irina Koroleva and Evgeniya Kirpicheva each finished with 8-1 records in foil as the St. John's women's fencing team finished 1-2 at the Temple Invitational in Philadelphia on Saturday. The Red Storm women defeated Temple, but fell short against Duke and Penn State.
Koroleva went 2-1 against Duke and 3-0 against both Penn State and Temple, while Kirpicheva finished 3-0 against Duke and Temple and 2-1 against Penn State.
On the men's side, the Red Storm were led by Nicholas Vomero and Marat Israelian, both of whom finished 5-1 on the day in epee.
Vomero had a 2-1 record as STJ posted a victory over Duke, and was undefeated as the Storm men fell to Penn State. Israelian was 3-0 against Duke and 2-1 against Penn State.
Dagmara Wozniak, ranked No. 10 in the world in the women's sabre, finished 6-3 on the day.
The St. Joh's fencing teams return to action on March 14 at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships in Providence, R.I.
