QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's track & field junior Priscilla Frederick was named BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
Frederick led the Red Storm with 24 points in this past weekend's Metropolitan Championships at Yale, competing in the pentathlon, high jump, long jump, shot put and 60-meter hurdles. The Sicklerville, N.J., native also placed third in the high jump at the Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.
With a height of 1.81 meters in the high jump, Frederick not only received first place at the Mets, she also qualified for the USA Indoor National Championships and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships. That height, which is just short of her school-record jump of 1.82 meters, ranks 10th nationally among active student-athletes.
Frederick also qualified for the ECAC Championships with her second-place finish in the pentathlon, scoring a total of 3,576 points.
This award marks the second time that Frederick has earned BIG EAST weekly honors in the indoor season, as she was named Athlete of the Week after last season's Metropolitan Championships.
Frederick and the Red Storm return to the N.Y. Armory on Friday for the New Balance Invitational. The team will then travel to New Jersey for the Princeton Invitational on Saturday.
