Homer, Wozniak Win NCAA Northeast Regional Titles

Providence, R.I. - Daryl Homer and Dagmara Wozniak won the NCAA Northeast Regional title in men's and women's sabre respectively, to lead the St. John's fencing team at the NCAA Northeast Regional at Brown University.
Both Homer and Wozniak posted records of 10-1 on the day, and will represent St. John's at the 2010 NCAA Fencing Championships in Boston March 25-28.
Also in the men's sabre, freshman Sean Buckley finished second with a record of 9-2 and Alejandro Rojas placed fourth, finishing 7-4 on the day. Rojas entered the day as the No. 16 seed in the event.
In the women's sabre, Martyna Wieczorek followed Wozniak and finished third with a record of 9-2.
In the women's epee, all three of the Red Storm fencers finished in the top-seven. Tetyana Novakovska placed third (7-4), Sanne Gars finished fourth (7-4) and Saeedan Cook came in seventh (6-5).
In the men's epee, Marat Israelian placed fourth, while Nicholas Vomero finished seventh. They each finished 6-5 on the day.
Finally, in the women's foil, Irina Koroleva and Evgeniya Kirpicheva finished second and third and each posted a record of 7-4 at the event.
The Red Storm returns to competition on March 25 at the 2010 NCAA Fencing Championships hosted by Harvard University in Boston.
