Red Storm In Second Place At Hartford Invitational

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The St. John's women's golf team is off to a hot start in the Hartford Invitational at Rockledge Golf Course. The Red Storm sits in second place after all five its team players posted top-15 showings in Monday's first round.
St. John's carded a 313 (+25) in the first round and is just three strokes back of Rutgers in first place. Seniors Lois Kim and Michele Romano each shot 37-40-77 (+5) on the day and sit tied with Rutgers' Jeanne Waters and Hampton's Kala Williams for second place. Kim and Romano are just three strokes back of day one leader Brittany Weddell of Rutgers.
Senior Renee Cloutier is not far behind after shooting a 40-39-79 (+7) in the first round. She is currently tied for eighth. Freshman Mariana Barrios carded a 39-41-80 (+8) and is tied for 11th place. Sophomore Ellen Oswald shot a 37-44-81 (+9) and is tied for 14th.
Seniors Ashley Szewczuk and Samantha Tejada are competing as individuals. Szewczuk is tied for 24th after shooting a 42-42-84 (+12) and is also tied for the lead among the 10 non-team players. Tejada sits tied for 43rd after carding a 42-46-88 (+16).
The second round will begin Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
