Four St. John's Players Selected In 2010 MLB Draft

QUEENS, N.Y. - Four St. John's players were selected in the 2010 MLB Draft as Daniel Burawa, Bruce Kern, Greg Hopkins and Ryan Cole were drafted by four different teams.
Burawa was selected by the New York Yankees in the 12th round (385 overall). A 2010 All-BIG EAST third team selection, the junior had a team-high 30 appearances and was 1-0 with a 4.18 ERA and 12 saves. The righty had 31 strikeouts in 23.2 innings and allowed just a .236 opponent average. Burawa had three saves in the BIG EAST Tournament to set a new tournament-record and his 12 saves rank third all-time in a singles season.
The Colorado Rockies took Kern in the 23rd round (710 overall). The senior righty was 7-5 with a 6.23 ERA in 17 appearances, including a team-high 16 starts. Kern tallied 75 strikeouts in 86.2 innings. The righty tallied a career-high 12 strikeouts in 7.0 innings against West Virginia this season and also tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief in the 3-0 win against UConn in the BIG EAST Tournament championship game.
Hopkins was selected in the 24th round (729 overall) by the Milwaukee Brewers. One of three players to start in all 63 games, the junior batted .358 with 21 doubles, seven home runs and 59 RBI this season. The third baseman entered the single season record books, ranking fourth with 92 hits, tied for fourth with 65 runs and tied for fourth with 21 doubles. Hopkins also ranks sixth all-time with 44 career doubles and sixth with 138 career RBI.
The Houston Astros then selected Cole in the 34th round (1023 overall). The senior reliever was 3-1 with a 4.40 ERA in 28 appearances. Cole had 26 strikeouts in 28.2 innings and allowed just a .232 opponent average. The righty went 1-0 in four BIG EAST Tournament appearances, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.
