2010 World Lacrosse Championships
QUEENS, N.Y. - Former St. John's lacrosse players Jerry Nevin and Kevin Katerndahl will be competing in the FIL World Lacrosse Championships, beginning July 15 in Manchester, England.
A native of San Francisco, Calif., Nevin will be competing with the Irish national team. Nevin was one of three captains for the Red Storm in 2010 as he finished his four-year career with 47 ground balls playing close defense. His 18 caused turnovers this past season ranked third on the team.
Katerndahl played this past spring as a walk-on goalkeeper during Red Storm practices. He worked the previous year as the team's manager. A native of Peachtree City, Ga., Katerndahl will be playing attack for the Mexican national team.
Group play for this year's championships will begin on Thursday. Ireland will play a round robin schedule that includes South Korea, Slovakia and Switzerland. Mexico will face off against Italy, Czech Republic and Sweden. The finals for the tournament will be held on July 24. 30 teams from around the world will be competing in this year's event.
The World Lacrosse Championships are held every four years and sponsored by the Federation of International Lacrosse, which was formed in 2008 as a merger of the men's and women's international lacrosse associations.
