Updating The 2010 Red Storm Draft Class

QUEENS, N.Y. - All four members of the 2010 St. John's draft class have signed contracts with their respective clubs and have begun their professional careers. Daniel Burawa, who signed after spending the summer in the Cape Cod League, joins Ryan Cole, Greg Hopkins and Bruce Kern as the latest Red Storm players to play in the professional ranks.
A 12th round draft pick, Burawa signed with the Yankees after going 1-2 with two saves and a 5.70 ERA in summer league action for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod League. The reliever, who ranked second in the league with 19 appearances, had 25 strikeouts in 23.2 innings of work. The righty made his professional debut on Aug. 19 for the Staten Island Yankees of the Single-A Short Season New York-Penn League and worked 1.0 scoreless inning of relief.
Selected by the Houston Astros in the 34th round, Cole is playing for the Greenville Astros of the Rookie Appalachian League. The reliever is 3-1 with two saves and a 2.63 ERA in 18 appearances. Cole has 20 strikeouts in 27.1 innings of work and has limited the opposition to a .238 batting average.
Drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 24th round, Hopkins is playing in the Rookie Pioneer League for the Helena Brewers. The infielder is batting .297 with 14 doubles, five home runs and 36 RBI in 48 games. The rookie, who went 6-for-6 with three doubles and one home run in a game on Aug. 12, also has a .446 slugging percentage.
Kern, who was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 23rd round, is pitching for the Casper Ghosts of the Rookie Pioneer League. The righty is 0-3 with one save and a 5.26 ERA in 10 appearances, including four starts. Kern has tallied 21 strikeouts and issued just six walks in 25.2 innings of work. In his six relief outings, Kern is 0-1 with one save and a 4.97 ERA to go with 10 strikeouts in 12.2 innings of work.
