St. John's Cross Country Concludes Season At ECAC Championship

St. John's cross country battled hard as they wrapped up their season at the 27th ECAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 19. The Red Storm finished 14th among the 22-team field in the 5K women's university division.
Seniors Samantha Meyerhoff and Nicole Cocozza led the way for the Red Storm in the final race of their excellent careers. Meyerhoff ran a 19:27 time and finished 59th overall out of the 215 runners. Cocozza came in just seconds later at 19:31 which placed her 62nd overall. This was the fourth time this season that both Meyerhoff and Cocozza were the top two finishers for St. John's.
Junior Michelle Duffy registered a 19:37 5K performance slotting her in 67th. After finishing sixth on the team in the opening race of the season, Duffy managed to finish in the top-five for all of the team's remaining races. Sophomore Chelsea Trant, who was unable to compete at last week's NCAA Regionals due to injury, finished next for St. John's with a time of 19:46. Senior Aryon Trujillo ended her Red Storm career on a high note by recording a personal-best time of 19:49 in her final race.
Sophomore Angela Jarvela clocked in at 20:01 as she finished just behind the rest of the St. John's pack. Junior Marisela Acevedo was able to eclipse the 25 minute mark in her first ECAC Championship. Junior Alexis Bean was unable to finish after suffering an injury during the race.
STJ's team average time was 19:38:00 as all five qualifying runners placed within 15 spots of each other. The University of Albany captured the team title while Kathryn Fanning captured the race's individual title for Albany.
