Karmas Earns BIG EAST Player Of The Week Honors

QUEENS, N.Y. - After helping lead St. John's to a perfect 4-0 week, including a three-game BIG EAST sweep of Georgetown, Paul Karmas has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week. The accolade marks the first-career conference player of the week honor for the first baseman.
Karmas batted .550 (11-for-20) with three doubles, two home runs, 12 RBI and a 1.000 slugging percentage. The first baseman had four multi-hit games and three multi-RBI games, including a five-RBI performance and a pair of three-RBI games.
The senior opened the week with three RBI as part of a 3-for-5 day against NYIT. Karmas then went 2-for-4 with a double, a grand slam and five RBI in a series-opening win against Georgetown before going 4-for-6 with two doubles and three RBI in game two. The first baseman closed out the weekend with a solo home run as part of a 2-for-5 performance.
Karmas is currently tied for fifth in the league in doubles (18) and tied for eighth in runs scored (43).
St. John's (30-17), which has a seven-game winning streak and clinched a spot in the 2011 BIG EAST Tournament this past weekend, currently leads the league with 36 home runs and also ranks third in slugging percentage (.419), on-base percentage (.383), runs (328) and RBI (288).
The Red Storm returns to action on May 17, traveling to Boston College for a 4 p.m. game.
