QUEENS, N.Y. - Following his 8.0 inning performance in a 3-1 win against Villanova, sophomore Sean Hagan has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. The honor roll selection marks the first-career conference honor for the lefty.
In his first BIG EAST start of the season and his first start since March 29, Hagan allowed just one run in a career-high 8.0 innings of work. The lefty had four strikeouts and allowed just five hits, all singles. Hagan, who improved to 5-2 on the season, retired 10-straight batters at one point in the game and also worked three 1-2-3 innings.
St. John's (32-18, 18-8) also re-entered the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper rankings at No. 28. The publication last had the Red Storm ranked at No. 30 on April 25 after a rain-shortened two-game sweep against Notre Dame pushed the squad's winning streak to five games. The oldest college baseball poll, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper has provided rankings since the 1957 season.
The Red Storm clinched the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament and opens defense of its 2010 BIG EAST crown against No. 7 Cincinnati at 1 p.m. on May 25.
