Johns Creek, Ga. (August 13) - After another solid day on the course, St. John's alum Keegan Bradley finds himself within sight of claiming one of golf's ultimate prizes, a major championship.
Entering Saturday's round in a tie for first place, Bradley shot a one-under 69 to stand at six under for the championship, one off the mark held by Jason Dufner and Brendan Steele.
It looked early on that the pressure of the lead might get to Bradley, double bogeying the first hole. He responded with three birdies in his next five holes, and finished even for the front nine. Then in a show of composure not seen out of some seasoned veterans, Bradley compile one birdie and eight pars on the back to finish off the round.
"He's in a lull out there, where he's not really concerned with anything going on around him, he's just playing golf," Frank Darby, St. John's men's golf coach, said. "I hope he just stays in that lull and keeps playing well to win the tournament."
Bradley is in sole possession of third, one shot ahead of fellow American Scott Verplank, with the two teeing off in the next-to-last pairing at 2:30 p.m.
