Bronx, N.Y. - After opening up the season with a pair of victories, some early season injuries slowed down the Red Storm cross country team which resulted in seventh place finish overall at the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
"We were disappointed in our overall placing but our team has been battling a rash of injuries that has not allowed us to get our full team on the field," said head coach Jim Hurt. "Our ladies were fearless in their efforts to perform but their runs today were certainly hampered by the injury bug. Fortunately we have some time to get healthy for our Fall Festival next weekend and the BIG EAST Championship at the end of the month."
Chelsea Trant led the way for St. John's as she captured her first team-leading performance of the 2012 season. Trant clocked in at 19:59.69 to place 30th overall in the 123 runner field.
