Walnut, Calif. -
Three of the most distinguished track & field athletes were on display at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif. over the weekend as Priscilla Frederick, Phobay Kutu-Akoi and Grace Zollman competed at the event.
Frederick, St. John's outdoor record holder in the high jump, participated in the elite high jump division and was able to clear 1.82 meters on the bar. She nearly cleared 1.87 meters before eventually settling for a sixth place finish in an event that serves as a preview for the Olympic trials later this summer.
"Priscilla continues to excel against the top high jumpers in the nation and did so again this weekend jumping her seasonal best," said head track & field coach Jim Hurt.
In the 100-meter dash, school record holder Kutu-Akoi placed seventh in the invitational field. Zollman, whose 46.12 meter javelin throw is tops in the Red Storm record book, placed twelfth in the javelin event with a distance of 42.51 meters.
"It was great to see Phobay and Grace compete so well at the Mt. Sac Relays," said Hurt. "We take great pride in their pursuit of Olympic dreams. Having three athletes competing at such a high level of the sport is very gratifying and shows top level talent is being developed at St. John's."
