BEALLSVILLE, Md. (April 3, 2012)-- After a final round of 312 (+24), the St. John's women's golf team was unable to hold off a surging Old Dominion squad, and claimed a second-place finish at the Hoya Invitational. The top-three finish was the sixth of the year for the Red Storm, who have now finished either first or second in each of the last three tournaments.
Sophomore Harin Lee led the way for the Red Storm, placing second in the individual competition after a final round of 73 (+1), matching the lowest 18 holes of any player in the field on the final day of action.
"Unfortunately, we just came up short today," head coach Ambry Bishop said. "The greens continued to be tough, and we just couldn't get anything going. [Sophomore Stephanie Eybers] had a nice comeback and Harin had another solid finish.
Eybers finished strong with a final-round 76(+4) to finished tied for 33rd with junior Sebin Kim, who shot a final round 86 (+14).
Senior Ellen Oswald and junior Jennifer Neville tied for 21st after Neville shot an 81(+9) and Oswald shot an 82(+10) on the final day.
Old Dominion posted the best round of the tournament with a 307 on the final day to surge ahead of the Johnnies, while the Lady Monarch's Elizabeth Haycock took the individual title.
The Red Storm will continue its trek northward as it heads to Barrington, R.I. on Sunday April 8, for two days at the Brown Invitational.
