QUEENS, N.Y. (May 22) - 2012 Women's Foil Champion Evgeniya Kirpicheva collected yet another post-season honor this week. Recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for her athletic performance as well as her work in the classroom, Kirpicheva made the Capital One Academic All-District Women's At-Large First Team.
Majoring in public relations, the junior amassed a 3.75 GPA in the 2011-12 academic year while winning her first individual NCAA Championship, picking up first-team All-America honors, winning the Kaiser Award for Most Outstanding Female Athlete at St. John's University, and being named the Women's Fencing Team MVP.
Kirpicheva was one of just 11 female Division 1 NCAA athletes in her district to be named to the Capital One Academic All-District Women's At-Large First Team. CoSIDA separates the United States and Canada into eight districts, with St. John's falling into District 1, which consists of Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
CoSIDA will also consider Kirpicheva for inclusion on one of the Academic All-American teams.
Kirpicheva will return to captain the fencing squad for a second season when she begins her senior year in the fall.
