QUEENS, N.Y. - Just two weeks after being named to CoSIDA's Academic All-District Women's At-Large First Team, junior Evgeniya Kirpicheva received yet another postseason honor by receiving a spot on the Academic All-America Women's At-Large First Team.
Kirpicheva was one of just 15 female athletes to be named to the Academic All-America Women's At-Large First Team. She is also one of just two fencers to be named to either the Women's or the Men's Academic All-America At-Large First Teams.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) bases their selection for the Academic All-America teams on the student-athletes' competitive performance as well as work in the classroom.
"It was a great year for me in terms of academic and athletic performance," Evgeniya said. "I could not imagine a better way to cap off my junior year. I am really thankful to CoSIDA and St. John's for recognizing all of my achievements."
A public relations major, Kirpicheva amassed a 3.75 GPA in the 2011-12 academic year while winning her first individual NCAA Championship, picking up first-team All-America honors, winning the Kaiser Award as the Most Outstanding Female Athlete at St. John's University, and being named the Women's Fencing Team MVP.
Kirpicheva will return to captain the fencing squad for a second season when she begins her senior year in the fall.
