QUEENS, N.Y. (July 31, 2012) - Red Storm alum Dagmara Wozniak, an alternate for Team USA in the 2008 Olympic Games, will get her first taste of Olympic competition tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. in the women's individual saber event. Wozniak's first opponent will be Egypt's Salma Mahran in the Round of 32. St. John's fencing head coach Yury Gelman will coach Wozniak, his former student-athlete.
NBC's coverage of the women's individual saber event begins at 8:10 a.m. on NBCOlympics.com. It will feature the Round of 32 and the Round of 16. The quarterfinals will then be broadcast live on MSNBC at 10:30 a.m. ET. MSNBC will also broadcast the semifinals at 1:45 p.m. and the finals at 3:30 p.m.
Fans can access NBCOlympics.com's broadcast with a cable, satellite, or telco TV subscription that includes MSNBC and CNBC.
With no women's team saber competition at the 2012 Games, Wozniak's only event is women's individual saber on Wednesday, Aug. 1. At the 2008 Olympic Games, U.S. women's saber swept the podium in the individual event, taking all three medal spots.
Wozniak's U.S. teammate and former classmate senior Daryl Homer hits the Olympic strip again on Friday, Aug. 3 at 6:30 a.m. for the men's team saber event.
