QUEENS, N.Y - After placing eighth in the women's individual saber event on Wednesday, Red Storm fencing alum and Team USA representative Dagmara Wozniak checked in with STJ-TV via video chat to share her Olympic experience thus far.
In the interview, Wozniak reveals that she competed and trained with a partially torn Achilles. She will explore her options for rehabilitation of the injury with the hope that she will be an Olympic champion in the future.
"The day of the competition, if there was a tear or not, I was just going to go as hard as I can," Wozniak stated.
The native of Avenel, N.J. also discusses life in the Olympic village, her feelings on her eighth-place performance, her expectations for senior Daryl Homer's competition on Friday, and her bond with her long-time coach, Yury Gelman, who is also the head coach for the U.S. saber squad and St. John's fencing team.
