St. John's Head Coach Joe Tartamella
Opening Statement:
"This was a great team win for us tonight against a scrappy and tough league opponent. We had everyone score in an important win and were able to get the home victory. It was great to watch us play over two great halves of defense. However, there are still things we need to improve on as we get ready to face a tough Seton Hall opponent on the road."
On the team's effort in the 80-48 win over Xavier:
"Obviously we're happy to come away with the win. I think our players were looking forward to this evening and playing a tough opponent again. I think the first 12 to 14 minutes of the game we weren't ready and I thought that we were playing all over the place. I think we were really able to settle in about 14 minutes into the game. With the way Amber Thompson played and Keylantra Langley gave us a huge spark off the bench tonight, they really helped us get into halftime with a large lead. I was very happy with the effort and energy we had in the second half."
On the team's bench play:
"It's nice to know we can count on the bench. I think our depth is one of the biggest things going for this team. Our entire bench gives us contributions and it's great to see them score 44 points tonight. We need that to continue for us to be successful."
On the play of senior guard Keylantra Langley:
"It was great to see her come through. Keylantra gave us a big spark. She defended, rebounded. Good to see her come out tonight and be focused and energized.
Junior Forward Amber Thompson
On double-double at halftime and influencing team:
"We all need each other. My teammates box out and it helps me get a rebound. I box out and it helps them get a rebound. I play for my team and we play for each other."
Senior Guard Keylantra Langley
On outstanding team performance:
"We definitely all wanted this game and the win, more than any game this season."
On team involvement:
"It is the most fun way to play the game. When all of our shots are falling and everyone is rebounding and playing hard that is what our team is about, that is St. John's basketball."
