QUEENS, N.Y. - After going a combined 28-2 during the NYU Invitational and St. John's Invitational this past weekend, junior women's epeeist Isis Washington was named National Fencer of the Week by College Fencing 360. Washington headlines 12 NCAA fencers honored by CF360 this week.
In putting together a 14-1 record at both the NYU Invitational and St. John's Invitational, Washington led St. John's in wins at both events and outscored her opponents by 89 touches over the weekend. Both of her losses came by a one-point disparity (4-5).
The native of Parsippany, N.J., helped lead the women's epee squad to a 70-20 record during the weekend. Squadmates senior Alina Ferdman and senior Zsofia Fath posted 23-7 and 20-11 records, respectively. The SJU women's team finished 2-3 overall at both the NYU Invitational and St. John's Invitational.
Washington is now 43-5 on the 2013-14 season. She also placed 13th in the January North American Cup in Virginia Beach, Va., just one week ago.
The last SJU fencer to be named National Fencer of the Week by College Fencing 360 is alum Sean Buckley, who did so on Jan. 30, 2013.
