St. John's Head Coach Joe Tartamella
Opening statement:
"This is a great win for us coming off of a tough road loss. I thought we had two great halves and we defended a strong and very well coached Creighton team. We have to continue to become more consistent and begin to prepare for DePaul this weekend."
On the importance of Wednesday's win over Creighton:
"This was probably as close to a win that you need to have as any. We felt this was a big game for us as we get ready to get into the heart of the BIG EAST schedule. Coming off our loss at Xavier and playing a team that has played very well all season, we felt it was very important to hold serve at home."
On Jade Walker's performance:
"I think we saw what Jade is all about in her performance tonight. She showed her versatility inside and out the entire game. Jade played the most minutes of her career and she hung tough against a Creighton team that continues to move. Watching her execute the game plan we created for her was truly exciting."
Junior Forward Amber Thompson
On the team's performance compared to previous games:
"The team really came together today. We've had some bumps in the road but we pulled together. We knew what we had to do and we came out and did it."
On how her strong play of late:
"I definitely feel better, my teammates are pushing me. I know my team needs me. I'm playing for myself as well as for them. I'm just doing what I have to do to help the team win."
On Danaejah Grant as a player and her performance:
"Danaejah is giving us some steam off of the bench, she works hard, she challenges everybody in practice and she helps us every day."
Sophomore Guard Danaejah Grant
On whether this was a game the team needed to win:
"It was an important win for the team and solidified where we are at on the season. We will continue to grow but right now we are in a good place."
