QUEENS, N.Y. - The Red Storm men's and women's fencing teams went undefeated at the Brandeis Invitational in Waltham, Mass., on Sunday, Dec. 7. Juniors Roman Sydorenko and Ferenc Valkai, and freshman Andras Nameth got off to great starts to open the season, posting perfect winning percentages on the day. Sydorenko and Valkai (both men's sabre) went 12-0, while Nameth (men's foil) went 11-0.
The women's epee team registered the most wins of the three weapons with a combined record of 41-13. Led by sophomore Yevgeniy Karyuchenko (10-1), the men's epee also combined for a winning record on the day, posting a 32-13 mark. Making their freshman debut, Noah Adamitis (9-6), Alex Cotter (2-1), and Sean White (4-0) all finished the invitational with winning records. Sophomore Cooper Schumacher tallied seven victories in 12 bouts on the day.
The Red Storm will not compete again as a team until they host the St. John's Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 24, but will send representatives to both the January and February North American Cups, which take place from Jan. 9-12 and Feb. 13-16, respectively.
