QUEENS, N.Y. - With the 2015 spring season less than two months away, Red Storm Sports had the opportunity to sit down with senior Cameron Lambertson to take an inside look into the mind of one of St. John's women's golf's graduating seniors.
Lambertson, a native of Northport, N.Y., has been a member of the Red Storm since her freshman year and has accumulated a career-stroke average of 83.35 through 18 events. This past fall, Lambertson shot a career-best with a three-round total of 236 (79-78-79), rounding out the fall season with a tie for 27th at the Princeton Invitational (Oct. 18-19). The senior's 18-hole career-best came as a sophomore, carding a 76 (+5) in the final round of the C&F Bank Intercollegiate (March 18-19). Off the course, Lambertson has been named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team in each of her first three seasons with the Red Storm.
Catching Up With Cameron Lambertson
Q: What has been your favorite part of being a member of the St. John's women's golf team for the past four years?
A: My favorite part would have to be the opportunity I had to travel with the team and play on such beautiful golf courses.
Q: What has been your favorite memory on the golf course throughout your time at St. John's?
A: Whenever I had a bad hole, I would look to the group behind me and see my teammate encouraging me. Although golf is more of an individual sport than many others, I feel as though we are all very supportive towards one another.
Q: What has been your favorite course to play on in your four years at St. John's?
A: Kingsmill River Course (Williamsburg, Va.).
Q: As one of only two seniors on the team this year, what does the final spring season mean to you and your team?
A: It's very bittersweet to know that I will not be playing competitive golf after this. I couldn't be luckier to play with the group of girls that are on my team.
Q: What is your personal goal for your final spring season?
A: I would like to start shooting in the 70's on a consistent basis and have as much fun as possible this semester.
Q: Off the golf course, what has been your most memorable moment in your St. John's career?
A: My most memorable moments have to be the friendships that I have created with my teammates.
Q: What piece of advice would you give to an incoming freshman looking to play golf at St. John's?
A: I would say to enjoy the golf courses that we have the opportunity to play on. We are so lucky to be able to play courses like the ones at Kiawah Island and Kingsmill Resort.
Q: What are your plans come graduation in May?
A: I'm hoping to pursue a career in criminal justice in the near future.
Q: If you didn't play college golf, what do you think you would be doing instead?
A: I've been playing golf as long as I can remember, it's very hard to envision myself having done anything else in college.
Q: What is a final piece of advice you want to share with your team before heading into your final spring season with the Red Storm?
A: Let's have as much fun as possible this season!
The Red Storm will kick off the 2015 spring season on March 1-3 as it heads to Kiawah Island, S.C., to compete in the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate.
