Event Previews: 2015 St. John's Invitational Cup, NYU Invitational

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's men's and women's fencing programs will compete as a team in two invitationals this weekend against several elite fencing programs from across the country. On Saturday, Jan. 24, the Red Storm will host Columbia, Harvard, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Penn State - the 2014 NCAA champions - at the St. John's Invitational Cup.
The six participants in this year's invitational have combined to win 24 of the 25 NCAA Championships since 1990, the year men's and women's teams began competing together.
Senior epeeist Isis Washington led the women's team with a combined 28-2 record during last year's St. John's Invitational and NYU Invitational, while junior saberist Roman Sydorenko compiled a 19-9 record at both events to lead the men's team.
The St. John's Invitational Cup will start at 10 a.m. in Taffner Field House, with the last round of matches set to begin at 3:30 p.m. A complete competition schedule can be found below.
The Red Storm will then take a trip to Jersey City, New Jersey for the NYU Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 25. St. John's will take on host NYU, Columbia, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Wayne State, and Yale.
