Ryf Finishes 10th at Junior Olympic Fencing Championships

Ryf posted a 5-1 record in pool play, which led her to the best record in her pool. After pool play, Ryf was seeded 14th out of 150 fencers that advanced to the next round. Ryf received a bye in the first round, and went on to defeat Mallory Merk, 15-9, to reach the Table of 64. She then defeated Ananya Gupta (15-5) and Ariana Mangano (15-10) to advance to the Table of 16. Ryf would meet Amanda Sirico, who was tied for the No. 2 seed. Ryf fell 15-8 to Sirico, who went on to capture the gold medal.
Joining Ryf at the Junior Olympics were fellow classmates Caira Moreira-Brown, Sean White, and Noah Adamitis. Moreira-Brown finished 57th overall in the junior women's epee after being seeded 85th. Moreira-Brown had a first round bye after pool play and went on to defeat Claire Beddingfield (15-14) before narrowly falling to Megan Eno 15-13 in the Table of 64.
White finished 36th overall in the junionr men's epee after finishing pool play with an impressive 6-0 record. After a first round bye, White defeated Theodore Lombardo 15-9 to reach the Table of 64, but would then fall to Joe Taylor, 15-11. Adamitis finished with a 4-2 record in pool play in the junior men's epee and was seeded 62nd out of 198 fencers that advanced to the next round. Adamitis fell 15-7 to Luke Sirand in the first round and finished 130th overall.

St. John's will compete as a team when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa., for the Temple Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 21. The Red Storm will face Brown, Penn, Penn State, Princeton, and host school Temple.
