QUEENS, N.Y. -- St. John's sophomore epeeist Cooper Schumacher has been selected to represent Team USA at the World University Games, which will be held from July 3-14 in Gwangu, Korea.
The Pompton Lakes, N.J., native has enjoyed two stellar seasons with the Red Storm and will be one of 24 collegiate student-athletes to compete in both individual and team events. Four student-athletes for both men and women were selected for each weapon.
Schumacher posted 49 victories during the 2014-15 season to lead the men's epee squad, and helped the Red Storm to a sixth-place finish at the 2015 NCAA Fencing Championship in March. As a freshman, he was instrumental in St. John's third-place team finish at the 2014 championship and was named second-team All-American after an eighth-place finish.
