QUEENS, N.Y. - With the Red Storm set to kick off the 2016-17 season in just a few days, Red Storm women's basketball Head Coach Joe Tartamella has announced the signing of three-star point guard Qadashah Hoppie to a National Letter of Intent.
Hoppie, a native of Staten Island, N.Y., is the No. 44 rated player in the Class of 2017, according to ProspectsNation.com. Last month, Hoppie competed at the Check Me Out Showcase in Minneapolis, Minn., which featured some of the top talent in the country.
"Qadashah is a dynamic guard that fits our system perfectly," Tartamella said. "She can score in numerous ways from all areas of the floor and plays with a toughness and motor that we love here at St. John's. She will be a tremendous addition to our program."
Hoppie, an electric point guard with a knack for finding holes in the defense, had a breakout year as a junior at The Patrick School in New Jersey, leading the Celtics to the semifinals of the Union County Tournament and earning an NJ.com All-Junior Second Team nod. The Staten Island native averaged a career-best 14.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in 28 contests. Additionally, she recorded 2.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game and enters her senior campaign with 782 career points.
During her sophomore season, Hoppie played the role of distributor, dishing out 3.8 assists per game in 26 games en route to earning a spot on the 2014-15 NJ.com All-Sophomore/Freshmen team.
The Red Storm opens the 2016-17 campaign on Sunday, traveling to Williamsburg, Va., to take on William and Mary at 2 p.m. The game will be streamed live on TribeAthletics.com.
