QUEENS, N.Y. -- The St. John's women's tennis team (5-2) swept Hartford (0-5), 7-0, on Sunday. The Red Storm has blanked the opposing team in every home matchup this season.
Anna Morozova and Jaide Collins got it going for the Johnnies with an easy 6-0 victory at the No. 3 doubles spot. The duo is 5-1 when playing together this season. At the No. 1 spot, Natallia Vavulina and Zofia Stanisz earned the doubles point for the Red Storm cruising past Emily Sneddon and Meredith Heitland, 6-0. This combo has played at the top doubles spot for every match this season and are 6-1. Stephanie Elgegren and Delia Arranz were victorious at No. 2 doubles winning 6-1.
The singles play for the Johnnies continued to be very impressive, winning four matches without allowing a game. At No. 4 singles, Olaya Inclan won 6-0, 6-0 and at No. 2 singles Morozova also recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory. The freshman Arranz clinched the match for St. John's defeating Emily Lindsley 6-0, 6-0.
Vavulina, a junior from Belarus recorded a straight-sets victory to move her record to 12-2 this season. Irina Preotescu and Stanisz also won in straight sets at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively to finish off the sweep. The Red Storm won six matches without losing a game and only lost seven games total on the day.
St. John's will head to the nation's capital to take on conference foe Georgetown for an 11 a.m. matchup on Friday, Feb. 26.
